New alley in Šimonovce

Thanks to the financial sources of People for Trees Program there were planted in Šimonovce (Rimavská Sobota district) the trees in the area by the school. The grant program opened the Ekopolis Foundation with the partner Skanska Group in Slovakia, which supports this program since 2005. The village is known especially through its beautiful nut-tree alley on  Hlavna street.

The village obtained 1.760 euros for the project „Green for the future" and the volunteers planted 56 trees. The trees beautify the playground area of the school.

„Šimonovce village in known through its wealthy community activities, folklore traditions, activities of the schools and local agriculturalists.  The changes of the project are visible at a glance." said Milan Hronec, the program manager of Ekopolis Foundation.

„Tree planting has a big tradition in our village. One of the examples is the nut-trees alley from the 1970´s and also this newest planting in the school area" explained the mayor of the village Emil Madarasz.

People for Trees Program supports the planting of trees, bushes, and horizontal and vertical greenery that increases the esthetic value of public spaces (e.g. buildings, fences, pillars, bridges, bus stops, etc.); activities for the rescue of precious trees, revival of public parks, greenery-planting around schools, public gardens etc. The program accents public participation - people living in the neighborhood should be involved in the project from its planning to consequential maintenance of the planned greenery.
