Thanks to active inhabitants, there grew new public spaces in Haniska and Banská Štiavnica

In the end of 2009 there were given two new public spaces for utilization reconstructed in accordance with ideas and needs of local communities. Both of these projects were supported in 5th year of Public Spaces Program 2009.

On Sunday 27, 2009  in Haniska near Košice there was opened a new public space created on the place of former illegal waste dump.

In Banská Štiavnica, at the meeting on December, 30, 2009 the inhabitants evaluated realized activities for revival of Dolná Ružová street and informed about prepared activities for spring 2010. These will lead to visible changes on the street, where there will be placed the banches, some metal hand rails by the stairs and other components.

Public Spaces Program called „PrieStory" in Slovak was launched in 2005 as a brand new concept in Slovakia. It is based on the US program - Project for Public Spaces that has been adjusted to Slovak conditions. The program endeavors to reach two main goals. The first, more visible one, is to revitalize neglected public spaces and transform them into vital meeting places. The second goal, less visible, but very important from our point of view, is to involve people living in the neighborhood, in the surrounding blocks of flats or streets into the planning of this reconstruction.
