3rd Thematic Seminar and Final Conference of UrbSpace project

The deputies of Ekopolis Foundation took part on the 3rd Thematic Seminar and Final Conference of UrbSpace project on Sepetmber 28 - 30, 2011.  The meeting was organised in Vienna Technical University,  which is one of the 13 project partners from 8 countries.

At the meeitng there was evaluated the work from April 2011. In the last months the partners prepared Methodology Action Plan, E-learning Modul and at the meeting disscussed the outputs of the project.

On September, 29 was the seminar organized in Bratislava - Petržalka. The project partners visited the reconstructed public spaces supported in Public Spaces Program of Ekopolis Foundation during last years.

At the Final Conference presendet REC Slovakia as Lead Partner of the project the outputs of the project, other keyspeakers presented the importance of biodiversity in the open urban spaces, innovative planning processes, urban architecture etc.

The Public Spaces Program, which started in 2005,  endeavors to reach two main goals. The first, more visible one is to revitalize neglected public spaces and transform them into vital meeting places. The second goal, less visible but very important from our point of view, is to involve people living in the neighborhood, surrounding blocks of flats or streets in the planning of this reconstruction.

The origins of the UrbSpace project lie in REC's work on the urban environment and spatial planning along with practical experiences of Ekopolis (Slovakia) and Nadace Partnerstvi (Czech Republic). The latter organisations succesfully developed a programme called "Spaces",based on good practice in European cities. The idea of the project is to build further upon this experience. REC Slovakia decided to offer to take on the Lead Partner role for the new project and together with the Ekopolis Foundation, the Nadace Partnerství (Czech republic) began the process of extended European partner search. The aim was to find partners with a range of interests, cultures, experiences and needs.

For the participants it was very inspiring to see the city Erfurt which is a city with friendly public spaces.
