A Small Party with Big Friends

On October 25, 2008 members of the “Green for Fončorda Neighborhood” civic initiative celebrated the renovation of the public space in Banská Bystrica with the local citizens and the project’s partners. The Ekopolis Foundation supported their project „A Place for Us – Neighborhood Citizens“ in the Public Spaces Program with the amount of 150 000 SKK (4979 EUR). ČSOB Financial Group is the program general partner.

The goal of the project was to stimulate the active participation of the neighborhood citizens in planning and renewal of the public space at THK a Spojová street. The efforts resulted in an urban study which determined to modify the relevant place to a central children playground. In the previous months significant changes took place – the local people have fixed the small wooden house, purchased new swings, climbing frames and a chute and painted the concrete labyrinth.

New bright colors has freshen up the place and attracted the parents with children, youth, as well as seniors. The activities have established relations – the citizens take care of the place and maintain it since then.

The project is an example of the useful cooperation of the citizens and partners such as: Municipality, Garden and Recreation Services of the Banská Bystrica City, local schools: Kindergarten, Elementary school, High school and Relaxáčik, private free time center for children.
