Theme: Participative Planning of Public Spaces

Creative EnvironmentCreative Environment (September 2007)
In Kosice, the Ekopolis Foundation with the British Council held a two-day seminar on creating and improving urban environment for professionals, citizens and media. The goal of the meeting with about 40 participants from the whole Slovakia was to inspire with positive ideas and experiences of improving public spaces in Slovakia and abroad. Michael Roberts, the British Ambassador to Slovakia and Huw Jones, Director of British Council in Slovakia attended the event also.

How Public Spaces Are Being Created (June 2006)
We held this seminar in cooperation with the British Council in Bratislava. Its aim was to intermediate experiences of participative creating of public spaces in Slovakia and abroad to professionals in Bratislava. The core of participative approach is ensuring active participation of public in planning and improving public spaces as well as in the very realization of projects. The Ekopolis Foundation also presented several projects accomplished in the frame of the PrieStory program.


Theme: Development of Non-motorised Transport in Slovakia

Cyklofest (September 2006, 2007, 2008)
In 2006 and 2007, with a bikers-initiative BBez!Mot, we organized an event named Cyclofest. It was aimed at supporting biking trails development and improving biking conditions so that the bike could become an everyday alternative mean of transport for all who want to use it as well in the Banska Bystrica city. Open ride through the city and its surrounding as well as cultural performances were included.

Bažant Pohoda Musical Festival (July 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008)
Pohoda 2007Our stand has already traditionally been a place for meetings and conversations with old friends and supporters as well as other visitors to the festival interested in our work and supported projects. Every year, we are trying to bring as well a practical contribution to the festival. In 2007, it was four Trixi mobiles offering free eco-transport in the airport area as well as a photovoltaic system charging mobile, camera and other batteries.


Theme: Supporting Public Participation in Decision-making

Public Sources and „Civic Voice“ in the Public Policy (March 2006)
This is the name of an international conference the Ekopolis Foundation organized together with the Institute for Public Affairs and the Slovak Governance Institute. The event, attended by foreign experts, representatives of Slovak and foreign NGOs, the government, political parties as well as business sector offered space for sharing knowledge on the role of public sources in supporting independent civic activities in the Visegrad countries and Croatia. The conference was part of the project „Unfinished Business: Civic Voice in Public Policy (1995-2005): Its Contributions and Opportunities for Further Development“ we realized thanks to the support of the Trust for the Civil Society in CEE.

Economical Aspects of Nuclear Energy (Oktober 2006)
In Bratislava, together with the Heinrich Boell Foundation and For Mother Earth Bratislava we held a conference on the current Eurpean energy market and the future of nuclear energy in Slovakia. At the conference, as well professionals from the EU countries gave their presentations, such as Prof. Stephen Thomas (University of Greenwich), Peter Diehl (World Information Service on Energy, WISE) and Oliver Schäfer (European Renewable Energy Council, EREC).


Presentation of the work and outcomes of the Ekopolis Foundation

Ideaexchange (September 2007, 2008)
In September 2007, at an „NGO market“ at Kamenne Sq. in Bratislava, Ekopolis presented its ecological tricycles - Trixi mobiles as well as the programs Greenways and PrieStory. In 2008 the event moved also to the regions - the Ekopolis Foundation could present its activities directly in Banska Bystrica. The event was organized by the Pontis Foundation and its partners.

Green Perspective 2007 (April 2007)
Award 2006The seminar on the issues related to trees in builded up areas was a part of the Flora Bratislava exhibition. Milan Hronec, our program manager, introduced activities of the foundation aimed at planting and protection of trees in municipalities of Slovakia. He presented several succesful projects supported in the grant program People for Trees last year as well as the Tree of the Year 2007 contest.

Best Annual Report (November 2006, 2008)
The Ekopolis Foundation won The Best Annual Report in 2005 in the NGO category. In 2008, it won the second prize. When evaluating reports, several criteria were considered, such as transparency, comprehensibility and accessibility of information. The contest was organized by the Institute for Economic and Social Reforms (INEKO) and its partners.
