We know the 12 finalists of the Tree of the Year 2020 poll. Voting has just started!

In the eighteenth year of the tree competition, 12 finalists from all over Slovakia fought for the prestigious title and professional treatment. The patronage of the survey has been held for nine years by the well-known singer, Peter Lipa.

The public vote begins on July 1 and lasts until the end of September. “It was customary for us to officially start voting every year at the Pohoda festival. This year, however, we all need to deal with the new situation and change our plans. That is why we decided to announce the survey online, but all the methods of voting and most of our activities remain the same, “says Martina Ragalová from the Ekopolis Foundation.

Within its mission, the survey draws attention to the importance, value, beauty of trees, contributes to their treatment and in many cases- to their rescue. Individuals, cities and municipalities, schools, companies or organizations could submit their favorite tree to the survey until mid-May; in June, an expert commission selected 12 finalists from 23 registered trees.

The prize for the winner is an expert examination and treatment worth 300 euros and an automatic promotion to the international finals of the European Tree of the Year survey. The trees, which are placed in the 2nd and 3rd place in the survey, will also receive a sum of money of EUR 300, which can be used for their treatment or landscaping. “Interesting rewards for participating in the voting, the Tour de Strom photo competition, which takes place on Instagram, or an expert lecture by arborists on tree care, await the fans of the survey this year as well. We haven’t forgotten about schools either, the competition for students will start in September. We have prepared nice prizes from our foundation for all of them, and three nominees and three voters will also receive book vouchers for Artforum, ”explains Martina Ragalová from the Ekopolis Foundation.

How to vote?

“It is possible to vote in the form of an official ballot paper, which you will find in the magazine Krásy Slovenska. You can also vote by SMS, on the website www.ekopolis.sk or on the social network Facebook – www.facebook.com/nadacia.ekopolis, “adds Ragalová. Photos and stories of tree-finalists are published on the website of the Ekopolis Foundation. “The evaluation of the entire competition, the awarding of the winners and the awarding of the Tree of the Year 2020 title to the winner will take place in the autumn, and as the poll has reached its imaginary maturity, we are preparing a full celebration,” Ragalová concludes with a smile.

The general partner is the Slovenská sporiteľňa Foundation. Other partners are ISA Slovakia (International Arboristic Society), Dajama Publishing, Artforum, ABIES Garden Supplies and Terrabike.
