Invitation to public discussions about transport,city , and people


The Ekopolis Foundation, in cooperation with the city of Banská Bystrica, is implementing a project focused on planning sustainable urban mobility. A series of public debates will take place in March in Banská Bystrica help with the analysis of the current state of transport.

The Ekopolis Foundation has been dealing with sustainable transport (mobility) in a long and systematic way.In cooperation with the The city of Banská Bystrica is currently conducting a traffic audit in Banská Bystrica in terms of methodology ADVANCE, the output of which will be recommendations for planning sustainable urban mobility for the city Banska Bystrica. These can be used as a basis for the preparation of a new Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan,which is being prepared by the local government in the near future.
“As important as the activities of formal experts and planners, there are meetings with the people of the city.We consider them as local transport experts because they move in city every day. Therefore, we need to know their views and needs which can help identify the strengths and weaknesses of the current situation different modes of transport in Banská Bystrica, “says Peter Medveď, Director of the Ekopolis Foundation.
For sustainable urban mobility, it is necessary to discuss with the citizents to move around the city preferred a different mode of transport before the car. “Traffic jams are one of the most common problems in bigger cities. Still, people are far less willing to move from cars to public transport. Our intention is to get to the point  where a human gets where he needs faster by bus than by car. I believe we will create a good plan to carry out public debates on traffic problems in the city sustainable urban mobility, “said First Deputy Mayor Jakub Gajdošík.
Public discussions with citizents will take place:

  • 13 March 2018 at the elementary school of Spojová (Fončorda),
  • 14 March 2018 at the premises of the Slovak Medical University (Radvaň),
  • 15 March 2018 in the Community Center in Sásová,
  • 21 March 2018 in Center of Independent Culture Garden,
  • 28 March 2018 at J. G. Tajovský Primary School in Podlavice.

Meetings are always held from 17:00 to 19:00.
